JK: What’s your nationality?

AP: Puerto rican.

JK: How longa have you lived in Bushwick?

AP: 37 years.

JK: Has the area changed much since you’ve lived here?

AP: Before, white people lived here, Italians. Before, the rent was $80 or $123 a month and now it’s $1,200, $1,300, $1,400…

JK: What religion predominates in the area?

AP: There’s not many catholics here, most are Pentecostal churches.

JK: How do you find the street vendor job?

AP: Cops are…there’s a lot of racism here. Food vendors are really gonna get it, street food is dangerous. But they don’t mess with me, I have a new cop. They don’t take me anymore, I don’t mess with the police. When they come, I show them my cop’s voucher.

I’m Puerto Rican, they don’t mess with me. Those cops are bad…’You are arresting me, you are the one using the drugs’. I fight with the police. They abuse of the poor, but we all go to heaven. I have a strong attitude.
